That is some pretty complex stuff but if the "dmesg" did tell you the driver are working you can always just skip down to the section "If modules load correctly".

If the "dmesg" didn't yield the result of drivers or VLC didn't work, again, let us know. If it is working at that point but not working in a particular app, let us know and maybe someone can help. Click the triangle next to it and if it gives you any option (for me it is /dev/video0 ) select that then lower in the window hit play. Try VLC - Ctrl+C should open capture device window. If it says uvcvideo has drivers in use for the cam it is at least installed and should work. Search for "webcam" by hitting Shift+Ctrl+F.
